Zakynthos is the main city on the island of the same name, the third largest of the Ionian Islands in Greece. It is difficult to realise that the island was hit by a series of four earthquakes in 1953, an earthquake swarm on an almost daily basis in 2006, and an horrific forest fire in the same year. Spetses is a port and small Grecian island lying about 90 km SW of Athens (and named by the Venetians for its position on a major trade route.) It lies just a few kilometres off the Corinth Peninsula facing the southern Aegean Sea. The town itself has a permanent population of just 4000, stretching from the Old Port to Dapia with its ferry terminal. The town is notable for its lack of cars – six taxis excluded. Bari, situated on the Adriatic Sea, is the second most important economic centre of mainland Southern Italy, and is perhaps best known for being the city of Saint Nicholas.
